Comedy Women in Print is a registered limited company (company number is 9985372). This policy sets out information relating to the personal data collected about you if you use this website and if you enter the Comedy Women in Print Prize.​

How and why your data is collected: Cookies

When you use this website no data about you is collected by Comedy Women in Print unless you enter the prize, subscribe for updates or use the ‘Contact Us’ form.


The website provider (WIX) uses Cookies to provide the web services. A ‘Cookie Alert Pop-Up’ will appear the first time that a visitor enters the site with the option whether to continue to use the site.  Comedy Women in Print does not receive any of the information collected by Cookies.


A Cookie can be defined as a small piece of data sent from a website and stored in a user's web browser while the user is

Prize entry

There are three ways to enter the prize on the website.  One is for members of the public to enter unpublished authors’ manuscripts. The second and third are for publishers to enter their authors’ novels.  The personal data obtained via each method is different and set out below.

Unpublished Authors

  • Comedy Women in Print (CWIP) 



  • This promotion is open to all UK residents who identify as women except employees of Publisher and Comedy Women in Print or their parent, subsidiaries or any affiliated companies and their immediate families, who are not allowed to enter the competition. 



  • Closing date for entries is 28 May 2021. No entries received after midnight UK time on this date will be accepted.  


  • The prize is a publishing contract with Publisher. There is no alternative first place prize. The runners-up in the Unpublished Category will be awarded a free place on the University of Hertfordshire’s MA in Creative Writing OR as an alternate a cash prize of £2,000 from the University of Hertfordshire and a week of mentorship from the MA Creative Writing department team. A second runner-up will receive a place on the online MA in Comedy Writing from Falmouth University – the first of its kind in the country. 


  • The prizes are non-refundable, non-transferable and subject to availability. No guarantee is given as to the quality of the prize. 


  • No cash or prize alternatives are available other than as set out at number 6 above.  


  • CWIP reserve the right in their reasonable discretion to substitute any prize with a prize of equal or greater value. 


  • The winner of the competition will be selected by a judging panel based on the following criteria: humour in fiction written by female writers as judged by the independent panel made up of writers, influencers and comedians appointed by CWIP, as well as a representative each from Publisher and Falmouth University: and notified at the CWIP prize event in November. The judges’ decision as to who has won the competition shall be final.  


  • Entrants retain full copyright in the entries they submit however, the winner of the competition will be required to assign copyright in their works for the purposes of publication. 


  • The winning novel will be published according to the publishers’ schedule within two years of awarding the prize. The publisher reserves the right to publish the winning entry in the format of their choice. 


  • Any application containing incorrect, false or unreadable information will be rejected. Any applications made on behalf of or for another person or multiple entries will not be included in the competition. 


  • To obtain the name of the prize winner after the closing date, please write to Comedy Women in Print, 15 Underhill Road, London, SE22 0BT. 


  • The entry instructions are part of the Terms and Conditions for this competition. 


  • By entering the competition you are agreeing to accept these Terms and Conditions. Any breach of these Terms and Conditions by you will mean that your entry will not be valid, and you will not be allowed to enter this competition. 


  • By entering this competition, you are agreeing that if you win your name may be used for the purpose of announcing the winner in any related publicity with CWIP and Publisher, however, you may withdraw your consent to this at any time. 



  • Under no circumstances will CWIP and/or Publisher be responsible for any loss, damages, costs or expenses arising from or in any way connected with any errors, defects, interruptions, malfunctions or delays in the promotion of the competition or prize.  


  • CWIP and/or Publisher will not be responsible unless required by law, for any loss, changes, costs or expenses, which may arise in connection with this competition and CWIP and/or Publisher may cancel or alter the competition at any stage. 


  • Any dispute relating to the competition shall be governed by the laws of England and Wales and will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.   


  •  If a title is longlisted, and the full novel is requested, then it becomes held by the Prize until it is no longer in consideration (by not being shortlisted or winning). While held by the Prize the author cannot accept an alternative publishing deal. Once released by the Prize, the author can once again seek other publishing opportunities.       


The details given on your entry form will be stored in a WIX database.

Published Authors

Publishers will be asked to complete the entry form and to submit 5 copies of each book entered via post to the address named in the guidelines.  Further copies will be requested for long listed entries.

In the event of being successfully selected as a shortlisted book, £50 will be required from the publisher and a further £50 for the winning book. In the event of being successfully selected as a shortlisted published novel the publisher is required to sticker copies of the Published novel with artwork provided by CWIP. Artwork will also be provided for the winning novel. 

Accuracy of your data

The data about you we receive from PayPal will only be as accurate as that stored in your PayPal account or that entered when making a card donation.  Please ensure your information is correct and up-to-date and that you have followed the guidelines before submitting payment. Any entries that do not meet the eligibility criteria and format requirements will be disqualified.


The data stored from your entry form will be as you have entered it.


If you become aware that you have submitted inaccurate personal data please use the website’s email address to let us know.

How long your data is held

Comedy Women in Print will hold your personal data for the duration of the prize processing timeline for the year you have entered and the time thereafter to fulfil the sending of prizes and any outstanding queries.  After this time your personal data will be destroyed with the exception of the details of the winners who will be given further notification of what data will be kept and when information will be displayed on the website (Author Name and Title of Novel only).


Obtaining a copy of your data or contacting us about the processing of your data

To obtain a copy of the data that the Comedy Women in Print holds about you from your interaction with this fundraising campaign, please use the hello@comedywomeninprint.co.uk email address and clearly state that you are making a ‘Subject Access Request’.

An administration fee of up to £10 may be charged in order to service your request.


If you have any other query relating to the processing of your data please ensure you have read this Policy fully and then if you require further information please use the email address on the website to make your request.


Sharing your data and marketing

Comedy Women in Print does not pass on your details for marketing purposes to any third party. Your information will be passed on to judges. Judges will receive different information depending on whether the entries are made via the published authors or unpublished authors route. Winners names and titles of their novel will be published on the  comedywomeninprint.co.uk website and in a press release that will be shared to media.

Unpublished Authors

Judges will receive an electronic copy of the file you uploaded and your entry number, which is automatically created by the database. If shortlisted, authors will be asked to forward their completed manuscripts via a website link provided. The manuscript will be forwarded to the judges anonymised.


Comedy Women in Print will hold personal data in a secure database. Personal data will not be extracted for reporting purposes with the following exception of data required to process longlisted, shortlisted and winning entries.

Flash your Fiction competition

  • Entries must be in English. They must be the work of the entrant and must not have been published or accepted for publication elsewhere,

  • The competition is international and welcomes non-UK entrants. Copyright remains with the author,

  • The closing date for entries is midnight (UK time) on the 13 Feb and closes 14 March 2021. Winners will be notified by email,

  • The results of the competition will be published on CWIP website and social media. Entries will not be accepted without payment,

  • Only manuscripts which are within the 100-word limit will be accepted.
