The competition is open to any woman, writing in the English language, of any nationality over the age of 18 on the closing date 14 October 2022.

 

The short story entries can be unpublished as well as recently published in magazines, anthologies, blogs or other platforms within the 18 months prior to the closing date for entries of 14 October 2022. Applicants must be able to grant non-exclusive worldwide English-language permission for usage of the story in the anthology resulting from this competition. (‘Non-exclusive’ means that the writer is free to place their story elsewhere also at any time.​)


Applicants may submit up to two short stories of their own. There is no fee to enter.

 

Applicants are asked to submit the full manuscript of each short story at the time of entry, together with a brief synopsis.

Format

  • Entries must be funny/humorous short stories between 5,000 and 15,000 words.

  • Each entry should be double spaced, 12pt, with a brief synopsis of up to 100 words added at the beginning, single spaced 12pt; and submitted AS ONE DOCUMENT via the Entry Form page.

  • The title of the short story should be at the top of the document, but no identifying name/s of author or submitter should appear on the document. Entries will be read blind.

  • Entries should be submitted in doc/docx format and titled as the name of the short story, i.e. my-short-story-title.docx.

 

Entries must be submitted via the Entry Form page, entries submitted via other means will not be considered.

 
Shortlisted entries will receive £100, the winner will receive an additional £1,000.

 

All shortlisted and winning entries will be included in an anthology of witty women’s writing (working title: FUNNY SHORTS! 15 Best new stories by witty women) resulting from the competition, to be published by Farrago in association with CWIP. The included writers will each receive three free copies of the competition anthology.

The winner and shortlisted entries must accept the prize offered by Farrago at times decided by them and at their sole discretion. Farrago reserves the right to publish in the format of their choice.

 

By submitting work for the Prize – the author agrees that ALL criteria have been met and accepts the terms and conditions. Any entry failing to meet the criteria will be disqualified. Writers from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds are encouraged to enter.
