This promotion is open to all UK and Ireland residents except employees of Hera Books Limited and Comedy Women in Print or their parent, subsidiaries or any affiliated companies and their immediate families, who are not allowed to enter the competition.

Closing date for entries is Friday 23 May 2025. No entries received after 23:59 UK time on this date will be accepted. If longlisted full manuscript must be ready by 4th July 2025.

Entrants must be unpublished fiction writers and entries must not have been published in any format (physical, ebook, audio) prior to entry.

The prize for one winner is a publishing contract with Hera Books, on Hera Books’ standard publishing terms. There is no alternative first place prize. Should the winner not accept the terms of the publishing contract, neither Hera Books nor the winner will have any obligation to move forward with the publishing contract and Hera Books will be under no obligation to provide an alternative prize. Three runner-up prizes consist of: (1) a place on the University of Hertfordshire MA in Creative Writing OR Writing Mentorship, consisting of four meetings with a professionally published author from the Creative Writing Team, taken within a six-month period, to discuss and workshop your current work in progress; (2) a place on the online MA in Comedy Writing from Falmouth University; (3) a Platinum Package from Fuzzy Flamingo.

The winner/runners-up must take prizes (particularly where prizes include training, services or events) at times decided by the prize givers acting in their sole discretion.

The prizes are non-refundable, non-transferable and subject to availability. No guarantee is given as to the quality of the prizes.

No cash or prize alternatives are available other than as set out at number 7 above.

CWIP reserve the right in their reasonable discretion to substitute any prize with a prize of equal or greater value.

The winner of the competition will be selected by a judging panel based on the following criteria: humour in fiction written by all women writers as judged by the independent panel made up of writers comedians and appropriate industry representatives appointed by CWIP, as well as a representative from Hera Books; and notified at the CWIP winners' event. The judges’ decision as to who has won the competition and as to the choice of runners up shall be final. If in the opinion of Hera Books, should none of the entries be of sufficient quality to meet the above criteria, Hera Books will be under no obligation to offer the winning prize.

Entrants retain full copyright in the entries they submit however, the winner of the competition will be required to assign copyright in their works for the purposes of publication.

Should the winner and Hera Books enter into the publishing contract, the winning novel will be published according to the publishers’ schedule within two years of awarding the prize. The publisher reserves the right to publish the winning entry in the format of their choice.

Any application containing incorrect, false or unreadable information will be rejected. Any applications made on behalf of or for another person or multiple entries will not be included in the competition.

By entering the competition, you are agreeing to accept these Terms and Conditions. Any breach of these Terms and Conditions by you will mean that your entry will not be valid, and you will not be allowed to enter this competition.

By entering this competition, you are agreeing that if you win your name may be used for the purpose of announcing the winner in any related publicity with CWIP and/or Hera Books Limited, however, you may withdraw your consent to this at any time.

Under no circumstances will CWIP and/or Hera Books Limited be responsible for any loss, damages, costs or expenses arising from or in any way connected with any errors, defects, interruptions, malfunctions or delays in the promotion of the competition or prize.

CWIP and/or Hera Books Limited will not be responsible unless required by law, for any loss, changes, costs or expenses, which may arise in connection with this competition and CWIP and/or Hera Books Limited may cancel or alter the competition at any stage.

Any dispute relating to the competition shall be governed by the laws of England and Wales and will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
